Stuffing box is an assembly used to form a seal against well pressure around stationery or moving solid wireline at the upper end of lubricator during wireline operation.
In the upper section of stuffing box there are packing nut and packing gland used to increase the compression force. In hydraulic stuffing box, the packing is tightened against the wireline by means of hydraulically operated packing nut, in manual stuffing box the packing is manually operated. The sheave wheel (3600 free movement) with guards mounted at the top of stuffing box as the path for wire to enter the well through stuffing box and lubricator.
